DECEMBER 2009: THE DAVAR OF CHRISTMAS

Did you know that “Davar” is the Hebrew for the Word of God and directly correlates both to Jesus and to the Scriptures? It is the Hebrew equivalent of "logos" and “rhema” combined and means both the 'word' itself and its accompanying creative 'act'. In the Old Testament the Davar is the spoken word which contains the power to fulfill. The New Testament describes the Davar as creative, alive and active, bringing life to its hearers.

In this season we celebrate that God has given us his Son, the Davar. We rejoice that we have the Son living in our hearts and that we have the Scriptures to guide us daily. However, as you’ve likely heard, BILLIONS of people today have no access to the Word of God because they do not read and because the Bible has not been available to them in audio form

In response to this sobering reality, there has been a ground swell among mission minded people and agencies to bring the Word of God to those who do not read. There has been a joining of hearts and a gathering of gifts to provide the audio Word of God to those who have not heard in a language that they can understand. As a result, in just six months time an agency has formed called DAVAR Partners with the purpose of enabling the maximum number of non readers to personally engage with the Word of God in the shortest amount of time possible, utilizing the most effective means available

To accomplish this goal means partnering with translation, audio, and outreach agencies. It means getting the costs down through advances in technology as well as producing the audio players near the point of need, and it means gathering all the resources necessary

Enabling Scripture engagement among non-readers around the world is a team effort and this is the reason we are called Davar Partners. We are all called to be partners in the task with The Davar who came as God’s gift of love at Christmas

As you celebrate the incarnate Word of God this Christmas and dwell in God’s Word, please pray with us that this ground swell of partners who love The Davar will reach billions with the “Good News to all mankind,” consider committing yourself to sharing God’s Word with someone who has never had access to it, and tell your friends about this timely opportunity.
