Our Projects:

DAVAR April 2010

Dear Reader,

I’m giving up soft drinks for a month. My neighbor is giving up just one Starbucks latte. I’m sure we’ll benefit from the lack of caffeine and sugar in our daily diets but the reason we’re making this small sacrifice is so that 100 people in Zimbabwe can have the Word of God everyday.

You probably know that in the past few years Zimbabwe has gone from being one of the wealthiest nations in Africa to the poorest in the world. But what you may not know is that there are 11 million Shona speakers within Zimbabwe and in the surrounding region and over 6 million of these do not have access to the Word of God because they do not read.

We’re partnering with a group of Zimbabwe pastors who are committed to addressing this need. They believe that the key to their nation’s transformation is the Word of God and so they have worked together to produce an audio recording of the whole Bible in Shona. Now they had a new problem — they had the audio Bible but still no way to multiply it to those who don’t read. But when one of the pastors visited Israel, my friend Vicki told him about the new audio player technology and we’ve been working together ever since. The Zimbabwe pastors are doing everything they can for despite their extreme poverty their local churches are committed to supplying $4.50 per audio Scripture unit distributed. So when I think about their sacrifice compared to the cost of one fast food meal for me, I can tell that this is going to have an even greater positive effect on my waistline!

$25 dollars gives one audio player and enables up to 50 people to engage with the Word of God. That’s possible for most of us (like me) and we can add up the dollars (instead of the calories) when we invite our friends and neighbors to join. Do you want to skip fast food today or do you just want to donate the cost of a meal for an audio player for a Zimbabwean? Click here

The ultimate goal of the Transform Zimbabwe Audio Scripture Engagement Project is to enable every non reading Believer to personally engage with the Scriptures by employing a ripple strategy that begins with cell church leaders, heads of households, and other people of influence and finally extends to every non reader. The local Zimbabwe church will bear the responsibility to provide 18% of the program expense while we at DAVAR have taken on the responsibility to raise the rest of the funds.

Through this program a total of $75,000 will make it possible for the next wave of audio Bibles to be distributed and will enable 3000 indigenous leaders to do intensive study of the Scriptures, 15,000 Believers to personally engage with the Bible, 150,000 to have access to the Word of God, and as many as 1.5 million people to be exposed to the Gospel in the course of a year. If you know of a church, a foundation or even an individual who may want to contribute a larger sum please make them aware of this great opportunity to change the course of a nation.

In Faith,

David
